With its 2 million inhabitants and in terms of the area it covers, the Central German area of Leipzig-Halle is the biggest concentration area in Germany besides the particular case Berlin. It is a leading development center and as well one of the seminal regions in Germany, attested to by the settlements of BMW, Porsche and the German post subsidiary DHL.
With its approximately 500.000 inhabitants, Leipzig is situated ideally on the intersections of important highways. It has the biggest European terminal station including a federally unique, integrated shopping center and an airport, which is currently used by 22 airlines. At the moment the airport is being expanded to become an international air freight turnstile.
Being the intersection of the North-South and the East-West traffic intersections, Leipzig is established

as an international finance and commerce center which attracts commerce, banks and insurance companies, science and research, industry, media and publishing companies as well as arts and culture.
Within just the last 3 years, the number of local companies in Leipzig has been increased by 20%. The only federal central bank of the new German federal states is also situated here.
